High School Pep Ralley Photography / South High School

So, one of my dreams is to teach photography to kids and adults because I LOVE the whole creative process!  The past couple of years, I have visited South High School’s yearbook staff to discuss shooting photojournalism photographs for their annual book.  This year we took it a bit further and I actually joined them for their homecoming pep ralley to show them how I work.  It was SO AWESOME!!!!!!!  I wish this was a place more photographers were hired for!  It was amazing to see how the kids slowly got up more courage to get into their subjects faces, and move around to get the best shots.  My job is truly rewarding.  Anyway, because I was there, I of course took photos myself.  Here are some of mine… South

Troncones, Mexico Event Photography / The Present Moment Yoga

It’s hard to express the magic that happens at The Present Moment Retreat in Troncones, Mexico.  Not to sound cheesy, but I literally cried when I had to leave.  The present Moment has the most perfect set-up to achieve relaxation, peace, and harmony.  From the quaint, stylish bungalows set around the glistening pool, to the yoga stage at the oceans shore and AMAZING food and employees,  I will forever hold this place in my heart.

I know that was a bit of a tangent, but I have been holding these thoughts in my head for a while and really wanted to share them now.

Anyway, back to photos!!!!  The day after Tom and Angelica’s wedding, The Present Moment had a 9am yoga class featuring the musicians from the night before (and all of the other elements that make this place special-doggies, Abril-the adorable daughter of the GM Jessica, incredible yoga instruction, humor, heat, waves, ocean, beach, and mountains).  Here are some of my shots I took during the class… Yoga

Thank you SO much to The Present Moment!  I plan on being back again really soon!!!!!

We’re moving!!!!

So, I have been waiting to officially spread the word for a couple of months now because we have been trying to sell our house in Fort Collins.  So, after putting it on the market for the second time, WE SOLD IT!!!!!!  It feels like a miracle in this market.

The best news though, is that we found the perfect house for us in quaint little Edgewater, CO (near Sloan’s Lake and the Highlands in Denver).  We are officially in LOVE!  Our 120 year old house is a modest 1,200 square feet with a need for lots of TLC.  Since we bought it about a month ago, the transformation has been awesome!  We started with foundation problems, so we’ve had our work cut out for us.  The amazing thing is that our contractor has been FABULOUS!!!!!  He is actually ahead of schedule and one of the nicest people to work with.  He has even gone above and beyond our contract and helps us our where he can.  His crew actually helped me bring a load of stuff from our truck into the garage just because they were being nice!  I feel like this whole process is something everyone involved in cares deeply about.  We’re all excited to see the final product!  I will be putting together a little slide show of where the house began to the finished product, so keep checking back!

Also, it is my absolute PLEASURE to recommend everyone we’ve worked with up to date because they all have been dedicated to getting the job done well, and have ALL been reasonably priced!

Our contractor Pat from C & R Builders – (303) 782-9005

Dennis from Rescon, who did our Radon and moisture mitigation in both houses – (970) 215-5663/(970) 590-7271

Ken Hickey, our structural engineer/inspector for the Edgewater house – (303) 857-6490

Don Bunn from Alpha Inspections, our inspector at the Fort Collins house – (970) 484-1711

and last but not least, Chip Parrish from Bancwise who was not only our foreman in Edgewater, but our realtor, financing expert, and most of all, our friend through all of this! – (970) 282-9473

If you would like any more info or want to hear more about any of these great guys, just give me a ring or drop me an email ((970) 581-1033 or alisonrosephoto@comcast.net).

We’re back!

After many annoyances (typical website problems), we are back in business! The website is back. Thanks to everyone who let me know it was down. I wouldn’t have found out without your help!!!!!

Italy!

I’m back from Italy and WOW what a trip!!!  I’ve had lots of people asking about the trip, but I figure the best way to tell you about it is to just show you…

Italy!

Buon Giorno! We have arrived in Italia!

Hi Everyone!

I have arrived in Italy for Laura and Alessandro’s wedding on the 8th, and finally got internet access!  I will most likely be able to check my email periodically, but I am most likely going to have a slower response time because I am busy enjoying the sites.  We arrived in Perugia two nights ago and made the drive to Rome yesterday.  Today was awe-inspiring and emotional because we toured the Vatican and St. Peter’s Cathedral.  I can’t believe I really saw the Sistine Chapel in person.  I wasn’t allowed to shoot at all while in the chapel, but even I have to admit that photos would not have done it justice.  I surprised myself and started crying when I first saw Michelangelo’s work on the ceiling.  We were also lucky enough the make it to St. Peter’s Cathedral in time to see mass.  The choir and the ambiance of the service (all in Italian) was indescribable.  I feel so lucky to be here!!!!

Tommorrow we are headed to the colosseum and other ancient ruins of Rome.  I’m sure it will be as incredible as today’s tours…

p.s. I am hoping to post some photos soon!!!

More photos of Mexico

In the short time I was in Playa Del Carmen for Steph and Rod’s wedding, I managed to take some photos of the locals and other fun stuff.  Here are my favorites…

This was the view outside my hotel room…

Playa Del Carmen

The morning of our Trash The Dress session we were walking along the beach and I turned around and saw this.  I literally took the photo with my camera behind my back.  Talk about lucky!

A night shot of the hotel.  It was gorgeous out there!!

I also played around with some motion blur at the shore my first night (the lights are coming from Cancun)…

I went to a tequila tasting in town because I wanted to get a really great bottle for Kirk.  Of course, I forgot about the 3 ounce rule at the airport and tried to bring it on board with me (I didn’t want it to break in my suitcase), and it was confiscated from me at the security line.  I cried.  This is the only record I have of Kirk’s awesome tequila…

Local Mariachi performers I ran into on the steps…

My sister-in-law Tracy and I were serenaded by a GREAT singer at lunch time in town.  We requested “Guantanamera” and he was awesome!

Our singer’s tip blew off the table and onto the street below.  I figured it was a lost cause, so I wasn’t worried.  We mentioned it to our waiter and he instantly ran down to find it.  Sure enough he saved the day!  I ended up just telling him to keep it for the effort (what great service!).  Here’s a shot of him below us…

The entertainment at the hotel was awesome!  It started with a Mr. Universe competition and ended with great dancing from lots of popular movies…

This one cracked me up because one of the competitors was a little heavier, so he needed a little help during the push up part of the competition…

MTV!!!!!

I got the most random, but cool phone call yesterday from MTV!!!  They are going to be filming a new “True Life” episode focussed on destination weddings and they asked me if I have any coming up.  Of course, the timing couldn’t be better with my upcoming trip to Italy for Laura and Alessandro’s wedding this 8-8-08, so I gave her info to them.  It’s far from a guarantee, but I just feel honored to have been asked by MTV!!!  Keep your fingers crossed for me!!  Yay!

Tornados!

What a day!  I spent many hours today in our crawl space with my daughter Maya and my cat and dog because we’ve been surrounded by tornado central.  Is it just me, or is the weather crazy this year?

What was craziest was realizing what I would bring down to safety with me.  Surprisingly enough, other than my family, I brought my camera equipment and backup hard drive with me into the crawl space!  I just felt like that was what I couldn’t live without!  It really put things into perspective for me.  I guess I really do love my job (not that I really needed to be reminded of that)!

I hope everyone in Windsor is doing alright and finds themselves safely in the comfort of their newly remodeled homes soon!  Good luck!
